I have a 1967 289 2bbl. Small block engine. It is using excessive amounts of oil. I have repaired all external leaks. There is no smoke that I can see coming from the dual exhaust. With no leaks and no smoke from the exhausts, can the oil still be going out the exhaust and will replacing the valve guide seals help?

Dead giveaway of stem seals is a nice puff of blue smoke upon startup, at least that was always our calling card. Also if compression is good and a plug or plugs have a nice gunky coating on them, stem seals are usually the culprit.

Ok well first things first oil coming out of the tailpipe is well not good, iots probaly just soot, or black resign, with water pumping out, as far as the noil goes, check your main seal, but as stated above the stems, lifters could go
