I just bought a 1965 Mustang 289; auto; Conv., newer 4brl carb, dealer A/c, pwr steer.

It seems to lose cranking power the more I drive it during the day. The car runs great otherwise.

When the car sits overnight it starts right up. I tried disconnecting the battery "hot" cable while the car was running but didn't seem to matter.

Wondering if the alternator or regulator may be in need of changing, or is the starter getting "hot" and taking more cranking power as the driving day goes on?

Thanks,
Chris

Two things come to mind for me: the starter is going bad, and your ignition timing is a bit too far advanced. I am wondering if there was a factory heat shield covering the starter itself at one time... You may also want to check the cables running to it. If there are any abrasions through the insulation, the resistance of the cable changes drastically. Hope this points you in the right direction.
