I bought my daughter her first car. It is a 1997 Mustang GT 4.6L and the fan is not working. Could it be a relay switch or should I just replace the whole fan unit?

It could be a relay, I would replace the relay first since this is inexpensive part at any auto store. or try jumpimg the fan with 12 volts by unpluging tha harness and using a couple of wires with clips to the battery. + an - really dosen't matter the fan will run either way that way you can rule out the fan which can be costly to replace. from ther if both are ok it is probably a tempature sensor ffor the fan.
