what causes low oil pressure reading on my pressure guage?

Is this reading on a mechanical or electric gauge?

It will be an electric gauge i feel, what you need to do is get the oil pressure tested with a mechanical gauge, this will give us a true indication as to the engine oil pressure, electronic gauges are very inaccurate and senders can cause a wrong reading if faulty.
