In the mornings or when the car sits for a long time. When driving there is a loud whining noise when accelerating thru the rpm's. The noise is coming from the passenger side of the car up near the engine compartment where the pulleys are located on the duratec 2.3 motor. I have checked the pulleys and the tensioner and they check out okay. Dont know what else would cause this problem but only happens when the engine is cold.

Long shot, but 10 days ago my alternator completely failed on me, drove the car to work on the morning, all was fine, got in to return home and it had failed. The noise you are mentioning, if it almost sounds like an enhanced "turbo" i.E. A loud version of the turbo, there is every possibility that your alternator is on its way out, mine achieved 49800 miles. When I exceeded 2000 RPM on a 1.6TDCi, the noise disappeared. Might be worth a look!
