2001 Ford Focus Heater comes on , warm air for 3 seconds th

My heater comes on the fan and all the air is warm for about 3 seconds but the car has to be warmed up for that to happen , then it just blows out cool air

Is your engine taking a long time to warm up?

If so you could have a defective thermostat; check your coolant level, and try replacing the thermostat (about $5). this may take care of your problem.
Also, if you've never done before, now would be a good time to service your cooling system.
