Engine Performance problem
1998 Ford Focus Two Wheel Drive Manual 60100 miles

When setting off in the morning the engine revs high when dropping the clutch.

The engine can rev up to 4000/5000 RPM until I change to another gear.

I can feel the car pulling and have to apply the brake constantly.

If I come to a stop and drop the clutch ready to go into 1st gear the engine cuts out.

As soon as I restart the car it runs perfectly.

Whats going on! Help.

Its a 1.8 Ford Focus (1998)

I'm not saying this is the answer but my car has been doing similar and a garage cleaned the throttle body and reset the codes (don't ask me what this means) it was great for a week or so but has slowly started doing it again, the garage said get a new throttle body (he said about £400) I would get one from a scrap yard first, but someone else has said it could be the throttle body switch? which I have yet to price up and try?? hope this helps (by the way to clean & reset the codes was £40 so don't pay much more)
