Engine Performance problem
1996 Ford Fiesta 105000 miles

Hi there, i have recently bought the car and was told that the speed idle valve needed to be changed, as the revs go up and down whilst sitting at idle.
I wasnt too concerned until the car stopped accelerating propperly, the problem feels like the brakes are slightly on, in that it is resisting going faster. also, the problem seems to happen once the engine has warmed up. it generally happens for about 10 seconds and can be sort of kicked into action by changing down a gear or really putting my foot down on the accelerator! annnoying problem!
was mainly wondering if it would be related to the speed idle valve or not?
Thanks, Josie

I had the same issue with my 1996 Fiesta. Turned out the air filter was cracked.

You can get it replaced or if the damage is not too bad get it taped up which is what I did.

My car is still going strong almost two years later and passed the NCT.
