Engine Mechanical problem
1991 Ford Festiva

I have a 91 Ford Festiva. I was driving on the right hand side of the freeway at 55mph. All of a sudden the car lost compression and the engine turned off and all of the dashboard lights turned off. Can this be a problem with the timing belt? I had a broken catalyst convertor. Can this contribute to the problems?

I am also wondering if its possible that the valves bent. I heard that there is a 50//50 chance that they could be bent.

Hi there,

If the engine stopped and all the dash lights were also out, this will not be a timing belt, with a broken belt you will still have dash warning lights on, if you have no power at all, i would be looking at an electrical fault, may be a very bad battery terminal, a blown dash fuse, i would check these first, if the dash lights up and you can crank with no start, check the timing belt and do a scan for any unresolved fault codes, start here.
