Have you run with a new distributor and have you check the fast & slow codes in the ECU?

If you do a scan you will see that Ford have 2 sets of codes Fast & slow, Fast codes coves hard wear systems and slow code cover sensors and control units, run the scan just to be sure that there are no unresolved fault codes in the system, this will stat the process of elimination for this problem.

Forgot to say, with the code check, it will prompt you to do a series of simple procedures, make sure that you do this exactly and ensure that the engine is at normal operation temp.
