Engine problem
1997 Ford F350 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 120, 00 miles

I drove my F350 crewcab diesel to the part store to get a part for another vehicle when I came out it would not start. Had it towed home when it got there it started and then just shut off like it wasn't getting and fuel someone suggested the fuel pressure regulator, but I don't know where it is. It is getting fuel to it, but almost like it builds up pressure and then shuts off, please help need the truck for work ASAP

It doesn't have a fuel pressure regulator. It supplies fuel pressure to the fuel filter housing which is located on top of the engine. There are several things, though that can cause this symptom. Since the injectors are oil controlled, the problem may be related to the high pressure oil system. There is a solenoid that controls oil pressure to the injectors (called the IPR--injector pressure regulator) and another sensor that monitors oil pressure in the system (called the ICP--injector control pressure). Either one of these can go bad, or both can go bad. Also the crank sensor may be at fault. If you believe it is getting fuel to the filter housing, you've probably done about all you can do, unless you want to start throwing parts at it. The crank sensor runs about $100-- and that's the cheap route. From there, the price just goes up. If you have any more questions feel free to ask. I'll walk you as far as you want to go with this. 8)
