I am about to buy a 91 F250 powerstroke. The guy I am buying it from said the transfer cae needs overhauled. Is it cheaper to rebuild it or just buy a new one.

You can buy a new one, rebuilt it or get a used one from a junk yard. The new one would be more expensive than getting one out of the junk yard. The cost of rebuilding the old one would depend on what it need to be replaced. Get a couple of estimates on what it would cost for a new one, rebuilding the one you have and a used one.

Have the one on the truck checked out to make sure it is the trasnsfer case
