2004 Ford F250 EGR valve--still won't start

I took out the EGR valve and cleaned it. It ran just fine yesterday. This morning I tried to start the truck and it will not start. It fires but will not stay running. It is still belching black smoke. Where do I look now for the problem????

possibly a cat convertor prob.loosen the exhaust.create a exhaust lrak if vehicle runs ok restriction in exhaust.. this can be tested bye drilling a hole in converter and testing with a back pressure guage .but loossening the exhaust will do the same thing. billymac
