Some times, not all the time when I turn the key on the overdrive off light is on. At these times the engine will not start. I turn the key off and on until the light doesn't come on then the engine starts and runs normally. Why is this and what can I do about it Thanks for any advice

Sounds as though it may be an ignition switch or main power relay not working properly. Usually the trans wont keep a vehicle from starting. Need to check for fuel pressure, spark and injector pulse when it wont start to see which system isnt working, it may even be all of them

Sure, when it wont start use atest light to be sure the fuse panel has powerat all fuses, this can be an indicator of a bad ign switch as well

It is getting power to all the fuses. What I don't get is that it is a hit and miss thing, it starts sometimes ( only when the o/d light is not on). When it is on it never starts. When it is running I can jiggle the key switch and the shifter and it won't shut off, it runs fine until the next time I shut it off, then it may start right up or I may have to keep turning it on and off till that light goes out, then it will start again. Could it still be the key switch.
Thanks for your help

It doesn't have any security or power locks or windows. It is just the basic model.
Thanks for any help you can give.

In the fuse/relay box (left side of dash) is the relay for thePCM (Powertrain ControlModule). This may be sticking or not receiving signal from the ign switch when you turn thekey on.Odd thing is that it wont start with OD light on. Try swapping this relay for another one to see if it makes the light stay off when key is cycled on.It is relay #C2160 (see pic)

That did it. I replaced the PCM relay about an hour ago and started the truck about 20 times without a miss. I think that was the problem. I keep going out to start it again and again just to see and it starts every time. I appreciate your help very much and think the service you provide is priceless. Thanks again
