2001 Ford F250 Engine Size unknown 70,000 miles

I have a 2001 F250 and I recently noticed a crunching noise is front end when I turn all the way left or all the way right. Now my 4wd doesn't not work when the hubs are in auto. When I put the hubs in lock the 4wd works. Does any body know what the crunching sound might be.

The crunching sound could be your"sealed" hub bearings going bad, check for spindle "play." The auto 4X4 works off of a vaccum line attached to the top of the spindle. If this line comes off - no auto 4X4. Also, I read somewhere that the 4X4 only engages going forward, reverse will disegage. Hope this helps.
