I have a 1998 F-250 4x4 with overdrive with 98,000 miles. I was driving my truck and stopped at a light and it started acting like it wanted to cut off. The engine light came on and stays on. When I mash the gas to go from the light, I had to push on the gas pretty good to get it to go but once it was going, it didn't seem to be running bad, it's only running bad at idle or when I'm breaking to come to a stop. I've just had a MAJOR tune-up done on the truck about 5 months ago that consisted of new internal plugs, new coils, new fuel filter, new air filter, and etc. I also had a lean fuel problem at the time and the mechanic replaced a epg valve? and something else that fixed that problem... As far as this new problem is concerned it only started today........ Can anyone give me an idea of what may be the problem .....? Thanks.............NUT

Usually rough only at idle is the idle air controller, or on the fuel rail, the fuel pressure regulator, pull the vacuum hose off the regulator, any gas in there? if so replace it...IAC is bolted to the throttle body.
Oh yeah, get the codes read too! Autozone does it free...

You were exactly right.. The Idle motor was bad so I replaced it, still had a shake.. I then started checking the vaccum hoses and had one hose that was busted pretty bad.. I replaced it and it stoped.. Runs like a new truck now........ Cost me about $100 and about 4 hours to figure it out..........Thanks Merlin..........NUT
