460CI, re-built motor with 20K, engine ran ok & one day it would not start, was trying to fire, but not starting. Changed the timing and it started right up. Drove it around for 20 minutes and it started to mis-fire & stalled. Moved the timing to the original position & it started. Ran ok for 100 miles and now it doesn’t start. Changed the timing again but won’t start. Note: the TFI is mounted on the fender, not on the distributor.

I take it that you verified no spark? Using a test light check the negative side of the coil for flash when engine is cranking, if no flash, then it is either the module or pick-up coil in the distributor. Just beacuse it is mounted on the fender doesnt mean it wont fail
