Electrical problem
1977 Ford F250 V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic N/A miles

I hope some one can answer this, I need to know what the stator wire connects to after it goes to the fire wall from the alt. To this point the voltage -key on, engine off-is right, just below 8 volts, behind the firewall, or on its way around to the ignition coil-at least I am assuming this wire goes to the coil, -some where in this line im grounding to power and overcharging 16-17V. My main question is what does the stator wire connect to bfore it make its way back around to the voltage regulator? Leaving the alt its a white wire with a black stripe- going back to the Volt. Regulator its a green with red/orange as it plugs into the S.

where does this little guy go?

After leaving the igition what else does this wire come in contact with, I guess I should have been more specific, I need to know the path or journey this thing takes so I can eliminate the other variables, where does it turn into a green and red wire? Does it go from the ignition switch to the coil? Or just to the ignition and back. This switch has been hacked so bad, I dont know what went where originaly. I cannot find any scematics that show this. I have been fighting this for almost a month now and its driving me crazy.

Do you have an ammeter or charge indicator lamp?

If its charge indicator the stator S terminal of the alternator goes straight to the regulator S terminal.

Ammeter-at the voltage regulator S terminal it should have a green and red stripe this wire goes back to the ignition switch. This is all I got from my school references for Ford charging system dated back 1987 with external type voltage regulator.
