2000 F150 5.4l v8. I am hearing a noise from the rear end at deceleration generally at highway speeds only. The noise is kind of a growling sound.

Hi
there are only a few components that will make that noise,
1 pinion or carrier bearing failure
2 ring and pinion howl
most likely a bearing, the ring and pinion will howl at all speeds over 30mph
if you do have a bearing failure I would reccomned replacing both carrier bearings, pinion bearings and axle bearings and seals, and clean the housing inside real good, metal contamination will kill the new bearings

thanks
