2000 F150 5.4l v8. I am hearing a noise from the rear end at deceleration generally at highway speeds only. The noise is kind of a growling sound.

hi
there are only a few components that will make that noise ,
1 pinion or carrier bearing failure
2 ring and pinion howl
most likely a bearing , the ring and pinion will howl at all speeds over 30mph
if you do have a bearing failure i would reccomned replacing both carrier bearings , pinion bearings and axle bearings and seals , and clean the housing inside real good , metal contamination will kill the new bearings
thanks
