2004 Ford F150 FX4 supercrew, 5.4liter engine, 22K miles. I tow a 2-horse trailer with this truck, using weight-distribution bars and electric brakes on trailer. Dealer said rear brakes were totally gone at 22K miles, though front brakes were okay. Have had problems with the emergency brake on the truck and was replaced by Ford under some service notice in 2005. I wonder if it is expected for rear brakes to need replacement at this mileage and before fronts? Dealer said rear brakes were not covered by warranty but others have suggested to me that the wear on rear brakes at this point in time might be a proportionality problem (??). About half of mileage has been with trailer, rest local driving. Any thoughts? thanks.

Your rear brakes are self-adjusting. The only thing i can think is that they are dragging and quickly wearing out because they keep adjusting themselves out farther and farther the faster they wear.

It is strange to have your rear brakes wear out before your forward ones. You said your e-brake was having issues. Could be that it's never fully releasing.

Is that rear disc or rear shoes?

Did you see them?

Maybe I had one too many, but, what do you mean by this:
" the wear on rear brakes at this point in time might be a proportionality problem (??). "
