My 5.8 L 1991 F150 4wd with 140K, during cold weather, the engine warning light was coming on with no other indications of problems with the way it was running or my gauges. It was not on when started but would come on at about 30 mph. When the weather warmed up there was no problems with the light coming on.
Yesterday, following the truck sitting in the 20 to 25 degree weather for a couple weeks I started the motor and drove for about 2 miles, brought it down to idle and excellerated. It didn't idle well and on excelleration it struggled a little. A half mile later I came to another stop. The motor died and I had to start it from a flooded state. It was like a choke was stuck on. As the engine continued to warm it finally got to a condition where it ran normally.
The truck has all new spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor, spark plug wires and PCV. I'm wondering if it could be the EGR valve. :?
