Engine Performance problem
2001 Ford F150 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a2001 f 150 crew cab 2 wd auto 4.6 lt. with approx 120000 mi.. When I start the truck after it has sat for 8 or more hours a big plume of smoke comes out of the exhast, anti freeze is ok , oil is good ,except I need to add a quart every 2000 mi or so as it has high mi.. Another thing that I dont think is related, is that the engine skips a little going up hills and upon acceleration, could this be the fuel filter, a bad plug, or coil/wire? are there codes for this ? the check engine light is not on and last time I had a bad coil/wire the light was on and the truck would stall. Thanks.
