I ran out of gas and after I filled up and took off I started noticing it was struggling quite a bit and being really jerky at acceleration. It was also really rough and jerky/shakey at idle. Well after about a day of this, the truck went back to normal and started driving perfectly again. Then a day later the problems started again and now it just comes and goes, sometimes fine for a day or two and sometimes doing it on and off throughout the day. Once while I was getting on the freeway the car was struggling to get up to 60 mph as fast as it usually would and started shaking pretty violently and then the CEL came on (this doesnt always happen ... just once so far). I put some Redline SS-1 in the fuel tank and it didnt really do much and these problems still come and go. I know I need to get the code read and am going to do that but am on very low income and would love to have some idea of what the problem is before I took it to a mechanic. Any help is greatly appreciated.
It has been suggested that its the fuel filter but would the problem come and go like this if that were the case? Why would my truck be fine sometimes and rough the next?
