Sometimes my truck will start and run fine.
Next time I get in it wont start. It does turn over
and wont start. When It's running no check Eng. light comes on. Where do I start?

The next time it does not start try pushing down the accelerator and starting while holding it down. Winter time seems to bring out a lot of no start concerns. Fords are problematic with no starts due to their IAC (Idle Air Control) valves. The emissions that get recycled into the engine cause quite a bit of carbon build-up in the IAC valve. When it gets cold, the valves gum up and stick. If the vehicle starts with the gas pedal mashed, it is almost a clear cut answer that this is the source of your concern. If it does not, you will need to dig a little deeper.

My wife just drove to Tahoe with the truck.
It still has trouble starting but ran fine. Sometimes when I try to start I don't hear the pump going.
Could replacing the pump solve my problem?
I know its in the tank.

I had that problem with my '98 F150. Turns out the Ford dealer mechanic noticed that the check engine light would not come on when it wouldn't start but always did when it would start. Said he never encountered that problem before but since he changed the service light switch the problem disappeared.
