Hi
I was backing up one day, and my wheels stopped...like I could feel resistance, so I put it in Drive, pulled up a few feet, then back in Reverse....same thing again. So I gave a little gas and 'pushed past' the resistance (just a few feet), and when I put it in drive, there was a noticeable 'rattle'...like something is broken. I can put it in gear, no problems, just the rattle. Does this sound like a trasmission problem, or maybe the brakes? Expensive?
Thanks!

It sounds like it could be a heat shield on the exhaust. Take a rubber mallot and tap on the exhaust to see if you can duplicate the noise.

Let me know what you find.

Hi
Finally got the truck fixed. Tow truck driver knew right away..."Brakes".
The guy who fixed it, a Ford mechanic for 20 years, said he'd never seen anything like it...and can't figure out how it happened. (He thought maybe if it had been sitting for a really long time....but it hasn't)
He said he went to take the rear brakes apart, and everything just "fell to the ground...destroyed".
So had to have everything replaced...and $850 later, she's back on the road.
Have you ever heard of this?

I only saw that one other time and it was on a Chevy Tahoe. I never suspected that based on the description.

Regardless, I'm glad you got it fixed. Let us know if you have questions in the future.
