I have a 1998 f 150 Lariat with 160,000 miles. The other day I was driving my truck in a cow pasture with 4 wheel low. Got to a place the truck would not go, put in reverse, heard a faint grinding sound like I had it in a bind. Put the truck in drive, noise went away but now four wheel drive will not work. The wheels do not engage nor do the lights on the dash come on in either hi or low range. The noise I heard did not sound like metal to metal grinding, more like plastic? I do not know if there is anything plastic that could do this, just trying to give you an idea how faint the sound was. Also I do not hear anything engaging or clicking at all. Any ideas on what to check for. Any information would be great!
