Electrical problem

Generally the truck starts, runs, and drives fine. On about 7 occasions the truck, while driving, has lost all power and stalled...no hazards/flashers, radio presets erased, can't start. Usually it will regain power after 5-10 seconds. One time it did not return to normal for about an hour...it was able to be restarted after a diode in the engine fuse box was removed and reinserted.
Two of the 6-7 times it failed when turning the head lights on.
It seems to be a short of some kind...but not sure what to replace. Any ideas?
