I have a 88 f-150 with a rebuilt transmission. Overnite a problem developed with my transmission. When I shift I can find 1st and 2nd gear just fine. But when I try to shift to third the gearshift is incredibily sloppy and I have to play with it to get it into 3rd gear. Same as with shifting to 5th. Downshifting is a freaking pain in the butt. When I have the truck in gear the gear shift flops around and I can never really be sure if I have it in gear or not. I have no clue as to what is causeing this. This is the first manual truck I have owned. If it helps it has a hydrualice clutch system. Which I'm sure doesn't make it any easier to make repairs. Help would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like something has fallen apart within the shifter assembly on top of the transmission.
If you have no experience with rebuilding manual transmissions, you should leave this to a knowledgeable mechanic.

The retaining collar that holds in the shifter assembly was loose. All I had to do was put some lock washers on with the screws and re-tighten the screws. Problem solved.
