P0118 Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit High Input
P0171 System too Lean (Bank 1)
P0174 System too Lean (Bank 2)
P0430 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2)
98 Ford Explorer 4.0 2wd
I have read up on these problems my main concerns are the 171,174 codes. I have been told to try to clean the mass air flow sensor is this a good choice of options and how do i go about removing it safely and cleaning it. As for the other two codes any information on them as well would be appreciated. Main concern is the not starting, and idling really low which are symptoms of the 171,174 codes i have been told. Any advice would be great.

Hey kt,
2 most common problems ..... 171 and 174 codes caused by: MAF and failure of the lower and upper intake seals. If you have a scantool that displays data stream I can walk ya thru a quicky diagnosis for it. As to the MAF many will test within spec (on the low side though) and still be bad. Let me know!
Chris
p.s. I would also address that coolant temp code too as it could also be the cause of your troubles!
