The gear indicator is not accurate. This problem only affects the operation of the vehicle when you want to put it in park. It won't go all the way into park and you need to use the emergency brake to keep the truck from drifting. What could be the problem? Where should I start?

Start at the tranny and adjust the shift cable, secure the truck so it won't roll over you, then loosen the lock nut on the shift lever at tranny, put gear selector in car into park, push lever on tranny to the stop and tight the lock nut.
