I'm told that the converters on this SUV need to be replaced. How can I tell whether this is true or not?

Hello, I replaced both catalytic converters in my 97 Explorer at 105k. Gas mileage and mass air-flow sensors were affected making the replacement necessary. Cost including labor about $300.00. Cheaper than replacing the sensors numerous times. Hope this helps! :)

Thanks - I was told that one cat was replaced, but it still doesn't pass emissions test. I'll probably replace both, but I understand that there may still be other problems.
