Drive Train Axles Bearings problem

I have a loud whine which seems to be coming from the rear differential. It gets louder when I press the gas. In doing research, I believe i have to replace the ring and pinion. What is the average cost of this repair and how difficult of a repair is it?

It is not that simple at all. You would likely be replacing all the bearings also and assembling and setting up a differential requires some expensive specialty equipment and extensive knowledge. You might want to consider just purchasing a used differential to make it easier.
