Please help! I was driving with my daughter the other day when my explorer starting mis firing. Shortly after that we smelled gasoline really bad! When we got back to the house we had a blueish grey smoke coming out of the exhaust and some moisture which also smells like gas. We have replaced wires, plugs, coil, and air filter. It never overheated and the coolant level is normal but the check engine light is on. What do we do now? We had the transmission re-built about three months ago and in my opinion it was still shifting slow after we had the work done on it.

Have you had the computer scanned?

No, I have not. I live in a really small town and the nearest big town is 20 miles away. I don't think it will make it that far. Any suggestions?

I don't mean to hijack your thread, and butt in on Jacob, but you need to have your codes read first; if you can at all.

The codes will give everyone a better idea of what is going on.

When you changed your plugs, what plugs did you put in?

As far as having the computer scanned for codes, I understand you don't trust the vehicle. Try this, call the closest nationally recognized parts store and ask if the lend or rent tools. Most do. See if you can have a scanner picked up and you can do it yourself.

What they normally do is charge you for the cost of the tool, but return the money when the tool is returned.

Let me know.

Joe
