2001 Ford Explorer Rear door latch

My 2001 Explorer rear door latch will not open. And I cant figure out how to get into the door panel to diagnose whether it is the handle, latch or linkage between the two.

I believe that the rear door panel is kept on that
snap in. You might be able to get it our far enough
to get to the latch. Dou you have a electric release? If so try it and hear if it make a clicking sound. This sounds syupid but I have had the same problem. I closed the hatch with a piece of fabric on the latch and it got wedged in and I could not open it with the key or electric.
