Brakes problem
1997 Ford Explorer 6 cyl Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 180000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
heres the problem. i have replaced the battery and front brake pads yesterday. when i hit the brakes my truck makes a loud grinding noise. on my way home from work tonight it was making those noise but the battery gage started blinking too and it showed that the battery had no charge. then all of a sudden all the lights started to dim even my headlights. then my abs light also came on, so i pulled over and turned the truck off but when i tried to start it, it wouldnt start. Is this my altenator?

To start, doublecheck that you didnt accidentally install a pad backwards, happens more than you might think. Need to charge the battery and start the truck, using a meter test the voltage at the battery and the big wire on back of alt.Should be over 13 volts, if not replace the alt. ABS and other lights are due to low system voltage

Have you done any of this kind of work before? If the brakes were quiet before you did them, recheck the pads, you may have installed the metal, or web side to the rotoe....and as for the battery, why did you change it in the first place? At this point if the cables were not properly checked, cleaned and tightened, you may not have had good enough contacts, this can lead to alternator death! A good battery and cables should be installed with a new alternator....
