Engine Performance problem
1994 Ford Explorer 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

In cold weather it runs perfect but when it gets about 70 degrees outside it runs rough or keeps dying and blows out black smoke it has even backfired! We have had it put on a machine and it showed no bad codes. We have changed the fuel pump and filter as well as spark plugs. Someone suggested it might be the temp sending unit in the radiator. Is that possible what should we do next? We have 2 kids that we have to drive around in the summer and we really need help!

Some things to check:
Check for spark when the engine dies.
Check fuel pressure and fuel pressure regulator.

Your problem seems to be temperature related. Some possible causes:
Ignition module
Coil pack
mass air flow sensor
crank position sensor

Trouble codes can come and go. If there is no failure during the test, there may not be a code.
