1994 Ford Explorer alternator

i have just replace my alternator twice because i took the ground off a car stops running i know it not the alternator because this is the second i replaced in the same day what could be the problem

If you are removing battery cables with the engine running, you'll be lucky if the only thing burnt is the alternator! This is not your GRANDFATHER"S OLDS!
This has computers that MUST remain grounded, so yes just by removing a cable with it runnung it could do serious damage...any more questions?
