I have a 2005 ford expedition. My rear hatch door will not open. I do not know if the locking mechanism is out or what but I need to fix my rear left light and can't because I can't open the door to get to it. How do I manually open the door?

The only thing you can do is remove the inner door panel and check to see if the linkage is broken or has come loose.

Let me know what you find. Also, once you open it up, you can manually release the latch.

There should be a few screws and clips between the door panel and the door.

If your rear hatch door on your 2005 Ford Expedition is not opening electronically, you can try manually opening it using the following steps:

Access the Interior Panel: Open the rear window glass and access the interior of the rear hatch. You might need to remove the interior trim panel or access cover to reach the locking mechanism.

Locate the Locking Mechanism: Once you have access to the interior, locate the locking mechanism near the inside handle of the rear hatch. It may be covered by a plastic or rubber cover.

Use a Screwdriver or Tool: Use a flat-head screwdriver or a similar tool to manipulate the locking mechanism. You might need to push, pull, or pry the mechanism to release the lock. If there's a manual release lever or cable, use that if available.

Coordinate with a Helper: While you manipulate the locking mechanism from the inside, you might need someone outside the vehicle to assist by gently pressing on the hatch or pulling the handle to relieve any pressure that might be preventing the hatch from opening.

Check for Sticking or Obstructions: As you manipulate the locking mechanism, check if there's anything obstructing the movement of the latch. It's possible that debris, rust, or a mechanical issue could be causing the lock to stick.

Apply WD-40 or Lubricant: If you can partially open the hatch, you might be able to spray some WD-40 or a similar lubricant into the locking mechanism to help free it up.
