I have a 97 Expedition, and the #3 spark plug has fouled. The problem is that the rubber piece on the bottom of the coil is broken off. Is this fixable? I have had a couple of people try to remove it, with no luck. I need to replace the catalytic converter, but don't want to spend the money if the plug/coil is not repairable. Thanks, Jenn

Jenn,
Are you refering to the rubber boot that goes over the spark plug? If so, yes they are replaceable.

Let me know.

It is the boot, however the boot is broken off. There is about an inch or two (I'm guessing because I cannot really see it that well) of the boot left attached to the plug. I cannot get that piece off/out.

Are you able to get an knife in there to cut out the old boot? If cut at least enough to remove the spark plug?

We have cut it to try to get a grip on it better, but are still unable to get it. Cannot get past it to the plug.

You will need to get a long pair of needle nose plyers that can reach down in to get a bit one it and try to rip it off.
