2004 Ford Excursion taking it out of park

When I try to take it out of park it hangs up. Sometimes I turn off the key then back on to get it into dr. Or I have to hit the brake pedal really hard to get it to free up. Very annoying. Paul

Most likely the problem is a faulty brake lamp switch. The brake switch sends power to the shift interlock solenoid to release it. ***If you ever get stuck the default way to get it out of park is to turn the key forward 1 click then move shifter into neutral, then start truck. Hope this helps
