Transmission problem
2000 Ford Excursion Four Wheel Drive Automatic 193000 miles

hi i have a 2000 ford excursion limited v10. i have been having a problem with my trans for about 3 weeks now. it started as shifting from first to second then shifting back to first, and at about 35 and up it shifted between drive and over drive a couple times. i took it into the shop and they said it came up as the tps. so i replaced it. it was still doing it, and after a couple more days its worse. now when im driving in drive it will slip and rev and sometimes catch at a higher rpm. but when i manually shift it, it does better. there are no codes coming up when i took it to a trans shop. they said something with my transfercase came up but that would have nothing to do with it. and he said he was gonna charge 2500 to fix the problem but had no idea what it was. any ideas?

Don't you love that. They tell you how much it will cost to fix something they don't even know about. Woiuldn't it be great it they had to replace the entire vehicle for that cost?

As far as the transfer case, the only thing I can think of is a vehicle speed sensor (VSS). The TCC solenoid could be an issue and should be checked as well as the TCM.

These items, which should set a trouble code, should be checked. I think the TCC is a 40.00 part + labor, maybe 75.00.

Let me know what you find.
