Timing belts
I have a 1998 Ford Escort ZX2 with 174,000 and the timing belt broke while it was running. if this happened would the valves break or bend if I tried to start it numerous times?

It is rare that any Ford engine is close tolerance. I don't think you have broken any valves. Replace the belt and drive it down the road!
