I recently purchased a '97 Ford Escort-wagon with only 73,000 miles. I drove it from Memphis to Little Rock (home) and it did great and got great mileage. Once home, though, a troublecode (P1443) came up. I've driven it 100 miles (all in-town close to home) while I wait to get paid to try to repair it. After going to a friends house and returning home, I tried to start it and everytime I turn the key to "start" the horn honks. I waited one day (to let the engine completely cool) and the same problem persists. I've disconnected the battery cables, put it in and out of "park" and checked all fluids (they're full). I wondered if anyone could tell me what to do. Any advise would be appreciated.

Well, Y'all have at least 2 problems. The code 1443 has to do with the evap system. thats the system that controls the vapors from the fuel. May be as simple as a gas cap that isn't tight maybe.

The other problem is probably in the steering column. There is probably a cover on the steering column that is held by a few screws. You might be able to see somthing like some wire problems maybe.
