My 97 ford escort, 4 cyldr, auto trans, 122,000 miles, I bought it at 105,000 and was told it had a new timing belt, has been runing rough, I brought it to the mechanic who hooked it up to the diagnostic tool and pulled plugs to view, said that cyl 2 and 3 are misfiring and that it needed a tune-up badly, He had me sit in car and start it and shut it offf 4 times to check each cylinder pressure, said that was ok. This was less than a week ago and hadnt had time to leave car yet.( For tune-up) Yesterday a.M. I started the car and it was chugging more than usuall, I put it in reverse, the car moved a foot then stalled out. I tried to start it but it wouldnt start, sounds like it is half way there, just wont engage all the way. I left for about 5-6 hours then came home and tried to start it again and same thing, wont start. The battery is giving off a charge, just dont know after that? I would appreciate your help. Thanks in advance. P.S- also, the mechanic doesnt believe the timing belt was done cuz the ac-alt. Other belt not in casing has cracks in it and he said when you change a timing belt you do both, and cracks like that only show up after 5 years or so of wear. So from there where do I go? Oh, and I just had a oil change and fuel filter replaced.

A four cyl, running on two is a miracle enough, but you may now be missing on three or four! Do that tune up, the mechanic actually got a look at the car and told you this. BASICS first, big stuff after. Replace plugs wires filters oil change. Then see how it is.

Good news you all- did the plugs, wires, coil pack this morning and it started, then drove it around for almost 2 hours, stopped and restarted it 4-5 times. Fires right up. Plugs were burnt out. Thanks to all, good luck to anyone out there with same problem, and also not one chug coming from engine, smooth as can be

Whell bearing-hub bearing, is there a difference?
Hi, I was told I needed new brakes, front, and the front right hub bearing replaced. Is there a difference between hub and wheel bearing? I can feel a slight rubbing in the front end when driving, which I was told is the hub bearing. Should I replace both since I am doing one anyways. This is a 1997 ford escort, automatic front whl drv. A great many thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

On your car it’s a bearing unless you have a damage hub or spindle no need for replacing it
