Good evening, I have a 1985 Ford escort with approximately 115,000 miles. Problem is with the clutch. Drove the car yesterday with no probllem. Got in the car this morning and pushed the clutch pedal. The clutch is extremely loose and I feel no resistance. It has been reccomended that I inspect the master clutch cylinder and the slave cylinder for leakage. I am not familiar with the car as it is my girlfriends car, and I do not know where these components are located. Does this sound as if it is the problem, and can you tell me how to troubleshoot the components. Thanks

Look under the hood on driver side at the firewall you will see a white cyclinder looking thing with a black lid that is the master clutch cyclinder open it up and pull the rubber cup up and out and look to see if there is fluid if no fluid look inside the car up under the dash where the rod comes through and pull the carpet back just enough to see if the fluid is running down the inside if so replace it. If not keep checking now if no fluid is found there and it is still empty fill it up but not over full so the cup can be put back then pump the peddle a few times. The salve cyclinder is mounted down on the front side of the trans missiom you should be able to see it. And you may have to remove it to see the leak but if it is leaking it will be doing it out the nose of it which is inside the trans if it is replace it. Chances are you may have to replace them as a set. For had a real proplem beeding this type system so they made them all one unit. All you have to do then is remove and replace no bleeding done.(NOS( 8)
