I just received this Ford Escort Sport zx2 from a friend and it apparently sat for about a year. I took it to a shop to get somethings checked out the mechanic said that the car still had oil so I checked it yesterday and it was low on oil and seemed to have absolutely no coolant. Now I filled it up with coolant and added a quart of oil and after a bit of driving in the suburbs the check engine light came on. I checked the levels of the two fluids today and the entire quart seemed have been used along with half of the coolant that I added. I have looked for leaks but cant seem to find one and there has been no sign of oil burning up out of the exhaust and the car seems to be running fun just somehow these fluids are just dissapearing? Any ideas on what could be wrong, I really don't know that much about cars either but I would like to know what is wrong cause I actually enjoy having this car a lot. Thank You.

Your first step should be to have the codes read that were set when the check engine light came on. We can see where that takes us. If you live near an AutoZone, they will read them for free. Just don't let them sell you anything until we see what the codes are.
