Car is a Ford Escort station wagon and just had a new alternator and belt installed. Another problem I am having is when I am driving up a hill the car loses power and "flutters"or "stutters" unitl I back off gas. It is more noticable on a long steep climb (car slowed to about 10 m/hr) and it happened twice at exactly the same place on the hill. It doesn't happen every time and I wonder if it is the fuel pump or timing belt.

Hi lori ,

The timing belt would not cause such a problem, the ignition timing might.

Fuel pump is possible and so does the MAF and throttle sensor. Check for a clogged fuel filter.
