I have a 1997 Ford Escort with about 190,000 miles. It has a new timing belt and new battery. It was running and then when I tried to start it, it would not start. I have verified that fuel is reaching the fuel rail and that it is firing but it refuses to start. The original ECM is still in the vehicle and I know with it's age and miles it obviously could be bad. After about three or four times of trying to start it, all four door locks pop up. Could this indicate something is wrong with the ECM? Other than that I can't understand why the door locks would open like that.
Thank you.

That is interesting. You mentioned that you have spark and fuel. I the spark a strong blue snapping spark? Also, did you actually check fuel pump pressure?

The spark is strong and while I have not checked the pressure on the pump (it is a fairly new pump), the pressure at the fuel rail is as strong as it was when the car was running. I am still a bit confused as to why all four of the door locks the door locks consistently pop up on the 3rd or 4th try to start it. Now, I'm wondering if the ignition switch has a problem.

If you have a good spark and the fuel pressure is good, then it should run unless there is a timing issue or low compression.
