1997 Ford Escort 4 cyl 73000 miles

Hi, My daughter has a 1997 ford escort. The brake lights are not working. It is currently in the repair shop, but I am questioning the repair. I am being told that the complete brake pedal assembly needs to be repaired. The shop tried to get a used part, but it came in bad. Now I am being told that it is not available local and needs to be flown in from another state. What was supposed to be a one day repair is turning into who knows. They cannot tell me when they will get the part and when the repair will be completed. I am also questioning the amount of the repair which with diagnostic comes to 237.00. Any thoughts?

if the brakes worked and the pedal was not loose then it just should have been the switch, et the could have been damage there, however the price does not sound to be too bad and it does seem they are treating you fair if not good. brake lights are a safety issue and anything less than 300 is worth it.
