I drove my car this morning and it worked fine. When I went to take my daughter to school it wouldn't start.

I turned the key and all of the emblems on the dashboard lit up. The buzzer sounded. I heard a sound that sounded like something powering up and then, somewhere behind the center console, I heard a clicking noise, but the car wouldn't even turn over.

I need the car later today and have to get it going. I checked my Chilton's manual and it said something about the starter solenoid or the starter possibly being bad. The car has over 190,000 miles on it, so anything is possible.

Can anyone offer me some suggestions as to what I can check to try to fix it?

Thanks for your help.

I have had similar trouble and it turned out to be dirty battery connections.I would start by disconnecting the negative terminal first, then the positive and cleaning the connections.then reinstalling them and trying it.It still could be the solenoid or starter but I've seen cases where the lights and accessories work but the car wouldn't turn over and this fixed it.

Try to jump start the car and if this doesn't work then go after starter or solenoid.
Let us know how it work out.
